Karjat/Khopoli-line local train from Mumbai CSMT/Dadar/Thane/Kalyan to Neral station (roughly 1.5–2 hrs from CSMT). Neral is the access point, not Matheran itself.

Shared taxi to the trailhead

Outside Neral station, shared taxis running toward Matheran will drop you at the '134 NM' railway marker on request — mention 'Peb trek' or 'Kadyavarcha Ganpati'. Roughly a 15–20 minute ride.

Walk the tracks to the diversion

From 134 NM, walk along the Neral–Matheran narrow-gauge railway track for about 40 minutes to the 155 NM marker, where the trail diverges from the tracks.

Ascend to the fort

From the diversion it's roughly 2.5–3 hrs to the summit through forest and rock patches.

Return

Retrace to 134 NM for a shared taxi back to Neral, then a local train. Services run fairly late, but confirm the timetable at Neral station rather than assuming — they thin out after peak hours.
